Jonathan French, spokesperson for the Association of British
Insurers, says that this is partly because of the fewer overheads
required by online businesses, which typically do not require
expensive showroom leases or regular refurbishments.
"Insurance companies encourage people to use the internet to buy policies
because it helps overheads and running costs," Mr French said.
"The internet is cheaper than using human resource. That is why insurance
companies offer discounts for people who buy their policies over the internet."
