Van insurance customers offered foreign road safety tips

Any van insurance customer who has ever puzzled over a foreign road sign when making an overseas delivery may be relieved to hear that help may be close at hand.

This week, a joint website between British Airways (BA) and vehicle rental firm Avis has been launched that aims to give car and van insurance policyholders all the information they need to make a success of driving in another country.

Road safety regulations and guidelines have been set up for 20 of the most-visited countries across the world.

They include 16 European countries, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the US.

Among the information on offer is guidance about local speed limits, which could potentially help van insurance customers avoid receiving speeding fines.

Additionally, road safety rules such as alcohol limits, seatbelt laws and an explanation of major road signs are all set out in detail on the website.

"We appreciate the difficulties drivers can face when setting out to drive in an unfamiliar country in a make and model of car that they may never have driven before," remarked Daniel McCarthy.

"By offering the guides … we can help drivers research their own information on the destination they are visiting."

In addition to learning about foreign signposts, fully comprehensive van insurance customers planning an overseas excursion may wish to check the details of their breakdown cover provision.

This is because some cheap van insurance policies do not automatically guarantee free recovery in the event that a vehicle breaks down in a foreign country.
