Prospect of home damage discourages parties

Many Brits will not be gearing up to invite their friends and family round for a party because they are too worried their nearest and dearest will trash their home, a new survey says.
Around one in six people prefer to play scrooge rather than invite their clumsy friends over in case of costly accidents, according to research from Lloyds TSB Insurance.
But men do the most worrying with 16 per cent admitting to losing sleep over the prospect of hosting a house party compared to 14 per cent of women.
Over a quarter of cash-strapped Brits say they are worried about the expense of hosting a party.
Phil Loney, managing director, Lloyds TSB Insurance says: "It's little wonder Jingle Bells are turning to alarm bells when it come to hosting a party at home. With the risk of damage to carpets, curtains and furniture increasing when spirits are raised, more and more of us are unwilling to add the cost of domestic repairs to the final bill for Christmas celebrations.”
"However, if you are planning to host a party there are some simple things you can do to reduce the risks of wine being spilled and tears being shed. Ensuring your home contents insurance is in place can help safeguard your property and your wallet if things do get messy," he said.
Lloyds TSB recommends that those throwing a party serve drinks in plastic cups to prevent breakages and plan ahead to avoid damage by removing hazardous or fragile items from areas where guests are intended to be.
