Home insurance provider reports
rise in neighbourly disputes
08/03/07
A home insurance company recorded a ten per cent increase in the
number of customers contacting it for advice concerning neighbourly
disputes last year.
According to home insurance specialist Cornhill Direct Insurance,
it received a total of 500 phone calls asking for support after
an argument with neighbours in 2006, covering issues such as border
disputes and unsociable behaviour.
In attempting to draw attention to the range of potential problems
that home insurance customers may encounter, the company has also
pointed to the findings of a recent survey of 3,500 homeowners.
The poll asked people to list their most hated outdoor objects,
many of which may be present in the gardens of neighbours.
And noisy wind chimes were voted the most disliked item, while
gnomes, hot tubs, fountains, sprinklers, bird feeders, hanging
baskets, goal posts, trampolines and caravans also featured in
the top 20.
Simon Coughlin, spokesman for the home insurance provider, pointed
out that some home insurance customers may benefit from arranging
legal expenses cover before challenging neighbours about unneighbourly
behaviour or irritating outdoor items.
"Often, common sense is all that's required but disputes between neighbours
can get seriously out of hand," he said.
"It is wise to invest in legal expenses cover when taking out your home
insurance."
In other home insurance news, this week has seen flood warnings
issued in parts of Worcestershire, reports Worcester News.
It follows news that the Avon river and the Severn river have both
burst their banks, which could potentially have serious implications
for home insurance customers in the area.
