World's first certified electric car unveiled at motorshow
26/07/08
The world's only highway-certified and crash-tested electric car has been unveiled at the British International Motor Show this week.
At ExCeL London, Norwegian electric vehicle company Think revealed the Think City, an electric vehicle that emits no emissions, no CO2 and is 95 per cent recyclable.
Car insurance customers may be interested to know that the vehicle has a top speed of 65 miles per hour and can travel up to 126 miles when fully charged.
It costs just £100 in electricity to travel 10,000 miles in the City and owners will not be charged road tax or pay the congestion charge.
The Think City will be available for UK drivers to buy from next summer, while production has started this year in Norway.
Prices will be announced nearer the launch date and standard features of the car will include an electric heater and electric windows and mirrors, while optional extras will be air conditioning, radio CD with MP3 player, Bluetooth and a navigation and multimedia system.
Richard Blundell, managing director of Think UK, said: "Unlike the lower-range, electric quadricycles that have had limited success in the UK, the Think City is a real car which provides a realistic option for those motorists who want to drive a true zero emissions car."
Last year, Think announced the start of production for the Think City at its factory in Norway and the firm claimed that the plant will be at full capacity during 2008, producing 3,500 cars per shift.
