UK "naughty drivers" confess
17/05/2008
Almost a third of UK drivers have confessed to flirting with traffic wardens in order to avoid being given a ticket while a fifth admit they have been frisky with their partners whilst driving.
Research by the organisers of the British International Motor Show have highlighted that British motorists have many guilty secrets when it comes to driving habits.
Over two thirds of drivers confessed that they ate at the wheel while 37 per cent said they regularly chatted on a mobile phone.
Nearly a fifth admitted that they check out good-looking drivers around them rather than concentrating on the road while 26 per cent said they had driven away with items left on the roof.
Car insurance customers may be interested to learn that 21 per cent of respondents said they had damaged another car and not owned up to it with London being the most likely area for this to happen.
The organisers of the motor show have set up a confessional on their website to which drivers can email their driving secrets.
Motoring expert Vicki Butler-Henderson said: "We really are a nation of naughty drivers! It's unbelievable what some of us get up to in our cars."
She added that it is "amazing" that some people can't manage to carry out basic maintenance on their vehicles and said that checking tyre pressure and oil are "fundamental" things to know when owning a car.
The British International Motor Show will be held at London's ExCeL centre between July 23rd and August 3rd and will have hundreds of cars on display as well as premieres and interactive features.
