Event to see car crime come under the spotlight
09/04/08
Vehicle crime in the UK is set to come under scrutiny next month when it becomes the topic of discussion at a major automotive conference.
Motoring experts will get together for the National Vehicle Crime Conference, which is this year being sponsored by manufacturer of wheel locking devices McGard.
The event is organised by the International Association of Auto Theft Investigators (IAATI) and is expected to be attended by senior police officers, insurance experts, government officials and auto manufacturers, among others.
As well as potentially helping to come up with ways in which motorists can protect their car insurance premiums from criminals, the show will include presentations on past successes.
Famous rally driver Paddy Hopkirk will be present at the event and is set to give the introduction to the day before delegates are invited to watch a short film relating to the security of vehicles.
Commenting on behalf of McGard, for whom he is a representative, Mr Hopkirk stated: "The company is delighted to announce its sponsorship of this year's IAATI National Vehicle Crime Conference."
Meanwhile, UK branch president of the IAATI Dr Kenneth German said earlier this year that while times are changing, thieves are adept with coping quickly with altering situations, Easier reported.
"Vehicles are becoming more difficult to steal, but the thieves are adept change managers, making profit from cloning, staged accidents, identity theft and finance fraud," he stated last month, according to the website.
