Car insurance customers list pet hates
28/03/07
A new study from a car insurance provider has revealed some of the nation's motoring pet hates, car insurance customers may be interested to know.
In a survey by car insurance company Churchill Car Insurance, drivers were asked to name their biggest driving fear and both men and women said that they disliked turning right at junctions more than anything else.
Meanwhile, 34 per cent of women and 29 per cent of men confess that they consciously avoid certain routes in order to avoid turning right across oncoming traffic.
And while men and women were again in agreement as they voted hidden entrances their second biggest driving fear, the unanimity ends there.
Although men rank overtaking a cyclist as their third biggest problem, women claim to have more concerns about driving around close to schools for fear they might accidentally hit a child.
Frances Browning, spokeswoman for Churchill Car Insurance, suggested that many licensed motorists could benefit from road safety refresher courses in light of the research.
"When motorists pass their driving tests, it doesn't necessarily qualify them as a confident driver," she said.
"It may be worth undertaking a refresher course now and again to increase driver confidence and make the roads safer for everyone."
Meanwhile, roundabouts might rank as one of the pet hates of motorists on the Isle of Man.
This week, a report from Isle of Man Today revealed that road safety consultants had been drafted in to assess alternatives to a double mini-roundabout arrangement at Quarter Bridge.
Explaining the move, Bruce Hannay, the Isle of Man's director of highways, said that many motorists were oblivious to the road safety guidelines for correctly approaching the traffic measure.
